WE ARE EXACTLY TWO WEEKS AWAY FROM THE RELEASE OF MY DEBUT NOVEL!
I promise I'm not freaking out.
I'm lying.
HOW CAN I NOT FREAK OUT?
But, since we are two weeks away, I'm going to start posting some interesting things about the world of JAKE HOWARD: MULTIVERSE 101 starting with the setting. I figured I would start with the picture above, which really looks like it belongs in some fantasy movie/show, but it's a place in the Hudson Valley called the Albert K. Smiley tower (or Skytop Tower).
I'm not going to go into the history of the tower, but it's always looked fascinating to me. As a kid I used to love the look of it, especially when the sun was setting. It just looked spooky, cool and it reminded me of the opening splash screen to Castlevania on the NES. The tower just sat there, looking over New Paltz, as this place that just captured my imagination.
In my teenage years I always said I was going to be a hermit and live in the tower. It never happened, but I would have had an awesome view.
Skytop Tower is just one of the very cool things that just give some more character to New Paltz (like that town needs any more character, it's pretty awesome) and, unlike some of the other places I mention in the book, it's still there. The next place I talk about in a couple of days no longer exists, but it's a pretty big part of the story...
Also, there is a very important poll on the home page. Go check it out!
