This place used to creep me out as a kid before I knew what it was.

"I always thought there was something up with the place. It looked really old and cool, there’s a rumor that Stephen King wrote The Shining after staying there with his family on vacation so there was always an air of mystery about the place. I guess this confirmed that there was more to that place than meets the eye." - Jake Howard

As Hudson Valley Legend goes, the Mohonk Mountain House inspired Stephen King to write The Shining. That is all little-kid-me needed to hear to never want to step near that place.

Ever.

In reality it's a very high end hotel and spa but, come on, it looks haunted as hell.

The Mohonk Mountain House has been around since 1895 so you can not tell me that the place doesn't have some ghosts. Well, you could tell me, I just won't believe you...

Spookiness aside it does look like a magical place, almost like a castle. When I was hashing out the story in my head I knew that this place was going to be a part of the story in some capacity. It does look amazing, especially in the fall and winter, and just feels important.

I really want to get into more details, and I will, but not yet. In six more days you can all see how the Mohonk Mountain House fits into Jake Howard's world.
